Beware the Microsoft Tech Support Scam: Don’t Fall for the Fake Fix!

The Microsoft tech support scam is basically a trick where scammers pretend to be from Microsoft to mess with you. They might call you out of the blue, or a scary pop-up might show up on your screen saying there’s something seriously wrong with your computer—like a virus or some critical error.

The goal? They’ll either try to get you to pay for fake “fixes” or convince you to give them access to your computer so they can steal personal stuff, mess with your files, or even plant malware.

The main thing to remember:

  • Microsoft isn’t going to randomly call you or send you messages about fixing your computer.
  • Real error messages from them won’t include a phone number or link to call or click.
  • If something seems fishy, just don’t engage. Close the pop-up, hang up, and don’t share any info.

Stay sharp and don’t let them pull a fast one on you! If you’re ever unsure, it’s better to double-check through official Microsoft channels.
